King of the Kongo restoration completed

Four years ago, I posted about film restorationist Eric Grayson’s work on a restored print of the 1929 Mascot serial King of the Kongo, a part-silent/part-sound chapterplay whose sound portions were originally recorded on disc; although no prints with the sound sequences survive, the disc recordings are still extant, and Eric has been working on reuniting them with a print of the serial. He’s just announced the completion of this project, with DVDs projected to become available in March; here’s the link to his Kickstarter page:

  1. I’ve seen the silent version and the Chapter 5 sound clips posted on Youtube, so it’ll be very interesting to have the completed restoration available for viewing. Since the demand is likely be pretty low, I wonder how many copies he intends to produce, or if it will be strictly on a “by order” basis. Also, I didn’t see any mention of the price he’s planning to charge for the package.
